Treesong

Treesong is an entity/project started by John Scholey in Ottawa, 2025, when he moved back to Ottawa focused on fostering and forwarding goodwill in our community through music, poetry, and literature. After connecting with Veteran's House Canada and beginning to teach residents (formerly-homeless Canadian Veterans) guitar lessons, he reached out to local music stores seeking donations for the residents. At that time, Bearbrook Media's Colin Power was working at one of these stores, helped John to his car with some of the donation guitars, and after a brief discussion offered to teach lessons in his place when John underwent wrist surgery in the Summer of 2025.

Since then, the pair have worked on a few creative projects and leaned on the creative help of Colin's wife Barbara. In early 2026, Treesong created its first publication, a poetry chapbook titled "Nothing", by John Scholey.

The folks at Bearbrook Media are in line with spirit and mission of Treesong and love contributing to the goodwill that Treesong generates in our local community. We are currently engaged in collaboration with John to expand the guitar lessons programs to more Veterans'-based institutions, homeless shelters, and other local places.
